The Hi5 Award is an exciting new award for young people age 5+ that records and recognises wider achievement.

The Hi5 Award has been credit rated and levelled by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

To gain a Hi5 Award, young people choose a challenge, think about and comment on their achievements, record time spent on their activities and gather evidence of their participation.

 

Key features of the Hi5 Award

Are for young people age 5+

Have a minimum of 5 hours of activity ( ‘Smile!’ courses range between 20-40 hours wowee!)

Have 3 levels (Star Rating) based on the young person’s cumulative hours

Are inclusive and suitable for young people with a range of interests and abilities

Are credit rated on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) where they sit at level 2

Help to evidence Outcomes

Support the aims, values, purpose and implementation of Curriculum for Excellence

 

HOW THIS FITS IN WITH ‘ SMILE!’ WORKSHOPS

4 DAY WORKSHOP AVAILABLE HOURS ( EASTER) :

Mon 8:45-4:30pm

Tues 8:45-4:30pm

Wed 8:45-4:30pm

Thurs 8:45- 3:30pm End of performance/ leave with parent or guardian

Performance of work takes place on Last day at 2:30 pm.

All students can be taken away by parents/ guardians after this approximately 3:30pm.

Hi5 students do not need to stay for both add on sessions and can choose to attend either the morning (8:45am-9:30am) OR the afternoon add on hour ( 3:30pm-4:30pm)

If you choose the full day ( 8:45am-4:30pm) we will give appropriate breaks and time for FUN too!

Working towards and creating the performance (9:30am-3:30pm) forms the main part of the awards practical work but the extra time is needed with creating a folder of evidence for each candidate and to help each student understand all they have achieved within the course.

Help with evidence collation and peer assessment happens between 8:45-9:30pm and/ or 3:30-4:30pm with our fully trained staff.

PERFORMANCE DAY/ FINAL DAY

Please note that the last day ends with a performance and the course will finish at approximately 3:30pm at which point all students are free to leave with their parent/ guardian ( whoever is in the audience) . All awards work will be completed by the morning on the last day.

BREAKDOWN OF EXTRA COST

4 day courses +£20 to basic/ early bird course fee

5 day course +£25 to basic/ early bird course fee

When you register as an award student ( see registration page) the fee is representative of the extra time and admin required that is over and above main ‘ Smile!’ performance project.

These costs are NOT included in prizes won.

This is an additional activity out-with regular course times.

 

LONG DAY = EXTRA SNACKS

We will make sure that all candidates are well looked after with appropriate breaks. It is advisable to send awards students with at least 3 healthy snacks and one packed lunch through out the day. Water bottles are essential and can be re-filled through out the day at water fountains found around the venue.

CERTIFICATES

At the end of each smile ALL achievements are rewarded with certificates of participation in a small ceremony.

The official certificates/ awards will be sent via post to you approximately 6 weeks after completion once all submissions have been approved and checked by Youth Scotland and the SQA.

They will receive an official certificate showing their name, their challenge, hours completed and a statement of their ‘special achievements’. The certificate will also show the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) level and credit points.
